Shisturi

Fish of the genus Schistura (Schistura spp.) belong to the family Nemacheilidae (Goltsovye). Native to the river systems of southern and eastern Asia. In nature, they inhabit rivers and streams with a fast, sometimes violent current, flowing through mountainous areas.

All representatives of the genus are characterized by an elongated body with short fins. In most cases, the fish have a striped pattern, gray-brown colors predominate in color. Sex differences are weakly expressed.

This is a bottom view. Most of the time the fish “lie” on the ground. Shisturs are peaceful in relation to other species, but males often arrange skirmishes for territory and compete among themselves for the attention of females.

They are easy to keep in an aquarium, provided that clean running water rich in oxygen is provided. The presence of an internal current that imitates the turbulent flows of mountain rivers is welcome.
